Pros: Duplicate entries happen in contacts databases quite often because of several reasons. Sales expenses are wasted on calling up or emailing such duplicate contacts besides the savings in other sales promotion efforts. Besides the company credibility suffers too as duplicate communications reach the same contact/prospect thus reducing the probability of making a sale. Checking duplicates manually is an effective process because it is hard to identify the duplicate forms of the same contact details through automatic means. Manual checking is a very time consuming and expensive process of course.

eGrabber DupChecker brings in robust duplicate checking that can catch duplicates caused by several reasons that include typos; duplicate name created because of a difference in the name of the contact for example. Spelling differences as in Sheryl and Cheryl or even abbreviation vs. the full form as with HP and Hewlett Packard and several other such mistakes. The program is able to recognize same phone numbers, regions, same location, state abbreviations etc. This application is able to scan, identify and group such duplicates together so that duplicate (even multiple) entries could be merged together into one entry. History of changes made in the merged record is maintained.

Cons: Compatibility with just one popular contact database unnecessarily restricts the use of the application couple of others like Goldmine would be really useful.

Overall: an application that provides a valuable service. Automatic duplicate detection is good. Merging also can be dependable in the automatic mode, while manual control of merge is possible. It is easy to use and is rated at 4 stars.
